| Jack
is my grandson - my "one and only." He
started telling me stories about his cats, Gigi and Jimmy,
when he was four years old. He very nicely (I
thought, for a 4-year-old) mixed truth with imagination in
the telling, and it dawned on me - finally! - that I
should be writing down the tales, if for no other reason
than the enjoyment of our family now and, hopefully, his
family in the future.
I was teaching high
school at the time, and it was just a short walk to the
classroom of the Chair of the Art Department, Mr.
Paul Breuer. He enthusiastically agreed to serve
as the illustrator of Jack's stories. Thus were born
The Coaster Catsİ.
Yet,
for some reason, as we prepared the first book in the
series for publication, something gnawed at me to do more
- and finally the ah-ha moment:
include a manual for other grandparents (or parents, or
aunts & uncles, or anyone who loves a child's
stories) so that they, too, can go on this wonderful
journey of the imagination with their child and save it
forever.
Please let me know where
your chronicling takes you! I would love to hear
from you: how this process brings you closer to that
special child in your life and weaves yet another rich
layer onto your family tapestry.
The Coaster Catsİ can be
found on our website OR...ask for
them at your bookstore (if they don't have it, please ask
them to order it)! The first book in the series
(which includes the writing manual) is:
The
Coaster Catsİ Go to the Amusement Park
